I have such a wonderful committee and I am beyond lucky to have so many of them take care of me when I come for appearances. Zayanne and Mark are the best hosts and they introduced me to a hidden sushi gem in Blaine. We ate so many fun and exciting things, including sea urchin! The time is finally here... SNOWFLAKE DAYS! I am beyond excited for the next few weeks in the community. It is the 50th anniversary and I have the honor of taking part in all of the fantastic events! This was the first weekend of festivities and I am glad that the weather FINALLY cooperated so that I was able to make the drive from Moorhead. I have such a wonderful committee and I am beyond lucky to have so many of them take care of me when I come for appearances. Zayanne and Mark are the best hosts and they introduced me to a hidden sushi gem in Blaine. We ate so many fun and exciting things, including sea urchin! Here is a picture of the crazy sea creature that I had the opportunity to try... Saturday morning started bright and early with the Medallion Hunt. The Coon Rapids Fire Department was generous enough to provide hot chocolate and a warm area out of the chilly wind for all of the families. There were separate hunts for boys and girls and the winner received a certificate for a new bike. Despite the cold temperature, many children turned out for the event. The winners were very excited about their prize and the little boy who won even said he was planning on sharing his certificate with his brother, "who also tried hard," so that they could each have a bike. I was impressed with the kindness by all of the children. The next event of the day was the Sock Hop, sponsored by the Coon Rapids Junior Royalty. I always love opportunities to dress up and do some dancing! My mom is always a life saver and her crafty ability allowed me to have a new poodle skirt for the event. Brianna and I had a wonderful time, in our coordinating skirts, dancing and reliving our youth days during the hula hooping contests! My final event for the weekend was a guest appearance at the Bunker Hills golf tournament. I was initially confused by the idea of golfing in the snow, but it turns out that there is quite a unique set up for indoor golf through the use of simulators. It was so cool! There were four simulators set up that allowed you to choose any golf course in the world. I loved watching the players as they finished their final holes of the round. The winning duo was -21 below par, definitely a score I have never seen from myself on any golf course! To top off the night, I was able to see the amazing ice bar that has been built for Snowflake Days. It is made out of 23 ice blocks, each of which weighs about 300lbs! It was a magnificent sight!

I am ready to begin a wonderful year as Miss Coon Rapids! My first appearance was attending the local pageant in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Two girls are crowned for the Miss North Dakota pageant and one girl is crowned for the Miss Minnesota pageant. I was thrilled to be in attendance to cheer on the lovely ladies, many of whom I have had the chance to get to know quite well. All of the girls were wonderful and it was refreshing to see some new and innovative talents! Congratulations to Drew Trahms as she joins the Miss Minnesota class of 2014! The community of Coon Rapids continues to prove to be a warm and inviting! I was invited to take part in "An Old Fashioned Mickman Christmas," which was an event filled with smiling children, hot chocolate, stories from Mr. Mickman and a special visit from Santa Clause, himself! I had the opportunity to learn more about issues that surround the community and become educated about Hope 4 Youth, a program that serves homeless youth in Anoka County. What a wonderful day all around!
Well, this is my first ever blog and I am excited that I have decided to document my experiences this year as Miss Coon Rapids! :)
I was crowned on November 23, 2013 and it was one of the best days of my life! I had the joy of competing with 8 lovely, talented and intelligent young ladies. I was looking forward to spending time with everyone after having such a wonderful time at the pre-pageant fundraiser a few weeks prior. I started the day with my interview and had a different feeling coming out of the room. It was an interview much different than any other one that I have experienced. Despite the new feeling, I knew that I had been open, honest and sincere in my thoughts and responses and that was my main goal when allowing the judges to get to know me. After a few more run throughs and much anticipation, it was time for the on stage portion to begin! I love being on stage and I was ready to give it my all. I had prepared a new talent piece and was ecstatic to perform for the judges. I invest a lot in my talent by selecting my music, cutting the composition and choreographing the number all myself so it is always thrilling to present the whole shebang! Before I knew it, it was time for evening gown. We were all walking to "Mirrors" by Justin Timberlake, one of my childhood loves since his N*SYNC days, so I was pretty jazzed to flow across the stage in my blue gown. After a whirlwind of a day, the time had come and I found myself standing holding hands with the other phenomenal women who had competed with me. So many emotions ran through me because I wanted this job, this title, so badly and I knew that I was ready for the next year. As my name was called I felt blessed, grateful and humble to have been put in this moment. I want to thank the community of Coon Rapids for welcoming me immediately and whole heartedly. I am looking forward to becoming a part of this community during the next year. Thank you to the fabulous Coon Rapids committee and volunteers for making this a wonderful pageant for all of us girls. I am beyond thrilled to have joined this family and I know that GREAT things are in store for me. |
