Fall is my favorite season. Not only because of the beauty it brings with the leaving changing colors or because it is my birthday season, but also because it signifies the beginning of the holiday season. I don’t know about you, but for me, this includes Halloween and its festivities. Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to participate and decorate a trunk for the Trunk-or-Treat hosted by North Star Community Church. The event was well organized and the kids went home with bags filled with candy. The kids quickly realized that if they came to Miss Coon Rapids’ trunk, they got to take a WHOLE handful of candy and while supplies lasted, pick out a pretty crown. Check out some of my favorite pictures from the event below. This weekend, Sage and I also had a photo shoot. We took photos together and others for our competition headshots and autograph cards. We took at least 100 photos, many of which turned out great! I have no doubt that my committee and I will be able to agree upon at least one which in turn, will be the photo that represents me at Miss Minnesota. As much as I would love to reveal all the photos I can’t. You will have to wait to see the final results when the Miss Minnesota headshots are released! Thank you to our hair & make up sponsor Gianna Capuzzi for making Sage and I look beautiful in our photos. And thank you to Kats Airbrush Tanning for the tan well done during the cold October month. Your work is amazing!

This past weekend, I made the trek up to Brainerd for the Miss Brainerd Lakes and Miss Central Lakes pageant. It was so great to meet some of the other ladies who were crowned this summer and welcome two more to the class of 2015. Congrats to Jade Hovet and Emily Lundgren on winning the titles of Miss Brainerd Lakes and Miss Central Lakes respectively. I look forward to the many memories we will make not only at Miss Minnesota but throughout the journey as well. In 2009, I had the opportunity to represent Minnesota as Miss Minnesota’s Outstanding Teen. The Miss Brainerd Lakes pageant was my very first appearance with this title. Now, not only was it my first appearance as Miss Minnesota’s Outstanding Teen but also the first local I have attended as Miss Coon Rapids. Because of this, Brainerd holds a special place in my memories and so do its representatives. I met Lauren Johnson at the Miss Brainerd Lakes pageant back in 2009. She had just been crowned the new Miss Brainerd Lakes, and I was so eager to get a picture with her. I was thrilled to have captured a new picture of us at this year’s pageant... same place, same event... but 5 years later. Starved by the time we got back to Coon Rapids, we stopped into Dino’s Gyros for a quick bite to eat. I have lived in Coon Rapids my entire life but am a little embarrassed to say that I have never been to Dino’s. Seriously, I have been missing out! Thank you Vona for the dinner and your continuous support of the Miss Coon Rapids Organization. We appreciate you and Dino so much! What a busy weekend! I not only had my first official appearance as Miss Coon Rapids but also the second. This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend the Pink Pumpkin Promenade on Friday evening and a volunteer appreciation breakfast for Hope 4 Youth the following morning both hosted by Mickman Brothers. Here’s a short story from my Friday night: Immediately upon arriving at Mickman Brothers for my first event, a young girl raced up to say hello to me. I told her what a beautiful painting she had on her face. Excitedly, she asked me if I could get my face painted too. Knowing the answer and not wanting to let this young girl down, I turned over to the Miss Coon Rapids committee member and my chaperone for the evening, Sue Leggate, and asked what she thought. She told the young girl that maybe after I finished speaking at this event I would be able to do so. Just a side note, if you have not had the chance to check out this short clip of my first speech as Miss Coon Rapids here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=574628892642737&set=vb.137695626336068&&theater. This is a great introduction to where my heart lies and the passion that exists within me for serving my community. The minute I walked off that stage, this girl raced up to me and asked if now I could get my face painted. I caved in... But with a compromise. I could not have asked for better appearances to start off my year. I had a blast! I met so many people and am completely overwhelmed with the doors that have been opened since my crowning moment. I am so excited to see where this journey leads me especially as my platform continues to grow and develop with the bridges that have been built. |
