it's all in a Day . . .
Dorothy Day Center
My day started out by having the privilege to volunteer at the Dorothy Day Center in St. Paul, a tradition I started with my father 9 years ago, serving our homeless community. This past weekend I was able to help out again since I am back from college. Currently a new facility is being built to replace the original Dorothy Day Center, called Higher Ground. Higher Ground will not only continue to provide meals for the homeless, but they are already helping with housing and many other services for those who are in need.
AFTERNOON
Princesses, Polka Dots, and Cupcakes
Each candidate for Miss Minnesota has a little sister princess called the Northern Lights Princesses! Our princesses attend events during competition week and appear onstage with us during the program. This year, I have TWO princesses who will be with me at Miss Minnesota, Callie and Stella. I was able to get these two together for a mini princess party! It was so fun! We all wore matching polka dot dresses, sipped kitty cocktails, and practiced decorating cupcakes! These two have futures on the food network because they had some amazing cupcake designs! We were sad to say goodbye but are looking forward to being reunited at Miss Minnesota. Callie and Stella became fast friends and it was honestly so fun to watch a ‘mini’ Miss America sisterhood develop between these two! #thesisterhoodisreal
EVENING
Sister Queens Reunited
Fun fact: my sister queen, Hanna, Coon Rapids Outstanding Teen, has to drive 3 hours to make an appearance in Coon Rapids! That drive does stop not her (and her mom, Michelle) from spending a day in the cities. We were able to meet to work on a film we had hoped to do together. And as fate would have it, this outdoor film took place at 6:30pm in the evening, in gale force winds and temperatures in the low 40’s! Of course we did our best to pretend it was 70 and sunny. Our outtakes would certainly make a great blooper reel! As always it was a treat to catch up, laugh until our eyes watered, and talk about our individual preparations for Miss Minnesota and Miss Minnesota’s Outstanding Teen!
