Information to compete for Miss Minnesota and Miss Minnesota Outstanding Teen
We are pleased to announce that effective immediately, Miss America has increased the age eligibility for young women entering our organization. Here is the updated age eligibility information:
MISS Candidates 18-26
TEEN Candidates 13-18
Residency Requirements: Contestants must have residency for 6 months prior to competing in their first local pageant. Residency is defined as the primary address where you physically live. Verification of residency includes a driver license, automobile registration, property mortgage or lease in your name, tax filings, etc.

Areas of Competition
1. Personal Interview with Judges 35%
Wardrobe: Candidate’s Choice: Interview Attire
● Allows insight into the candidate’s ability to fulfill the responsibilities outlined in the job description and contract
● Provides the opportunity to learn as much as possible about the candidate’s qualities and attributes to fulfill the titleholder position
● Allows insight into the commitment to advance and execute on her social impact initiative and have a year of service - not celebrity
● Allows insight into the commitment to continue her education
● Allows insight into the ability to express and distinguish her beliefs and have a true knowledge of the world around her
● Ability to get sense of accomplishments above and beyond the resume
2. On Stage Interview 15%
Wardrobe: Candidate’s Choice: Interview Outfit
● Advancing the same criteria as the personal interview by bringing it on stage in an interactive energetic way to showcase each candidates’ intelligence, personality, charisma, and aptitude for the titleholder job
● Allows audiences to truly get to know the candidate
● Allows ability to see how these discussions take place in a public forum showcasing the greater ability to communicate., stage presence, commanding presence, and relatability
● Allows ability to judge first impression reaction
● Allows ability to determine if the candidate cannot simply answer the question asked, but build on a conversation from the personal interview
● Allows the ability to see interactivity and discussion
● Allows the ability to see if candidate can serve as a role model and is reflective of her generation
● Note: On Stage Interview is a continuation of the private interview. The judge who started private interview for the particular candidate writes their on-stage question, no other person, at the immediate conclusion of that candidates’ interview. The on-stage questions cannot be provided to the candidates or anyone else in advance of the on-stage competition. This will be one question and must be answered in a 30 second response that is timed. You must end your answer immediately at 30 seconds.
3. Evening Wear/Social Impact Statement Competition (“Red Carpet”) 15%
Wardrobe: Candidate’s Choice: Red Carpet Glamour
● Allows a look into a how the candidate exhibits her own personal style, attitude, personality, grace, presence, and confidence while making her own statement about her mission for the job.
● Allows a look into composure, confidence, the attention she captures on the stage, her command of the stage, presence, and how she appears in the spotlight
● Allows ability to judge first impression reaction
● Allows a look at posture and carriage
● Allows a chance to hear a candidate’s presentation of her social impact initiative for social media in a different setting
● Social Impact Statement is not to exceed 10 seconds. Statement should be a descriptive statement of your Social Impact Initiative and its importance/relevance. This statement should be a way to easily market your platform on social media: think a tweet description.
4. Talent 35%
Wardrobe: Candidate’s Choice: Talent
● Allows insight into the candidate’s preparatory and performance skills
● Looks at selection of talent presentation, as well as the performance
● Looks at interpretive ability and technical skill level including execution, technique synchronization, and control
● Allows insight into stage presence and on-state personality
● Allows a look at the totality of the elements; Costume, Props, Music, Voice, Use of the Body, and Choreography
● Looks for how enjoyable and relatable the performance is
REGISTRATION REQUIRED FOR ALL CANDIDATES
If you are interested in earning additional scholarship awards and benefits by competing in a Local Competition, click this Local Competition Registration link to register for the Local Competition and specify which Local Competition you would like to compete. A $75 Local Competition Registration Fee is required. If you are not sure which Local Competition you should enter, we are happy to help.
Candidates competing in Local and/or the State Competitions are required to meet eligibility requirements and sign the 2022 Local & State Candidate Application and Agreement before competing in a Local and/or State Competition. The Application & Agreement is available from the Local Director and/or State Executive Director.
By meeting the candidate eligibility requirements, you are not limited to the number of Local Competitions you may enter. Please note, some Local Competitions may have residency requirements which must be met. A Local Registration Fee of $75 is required for each Local Competition you enter and must be paid using the Local Registration website above.

- Must be a U.S. citizen
- High school graduate or successfully completed G.E.D. by State Pageant date
- Female, never married, and have never had any children
- Meet residency requirements for competing in your first local pageant as noted below
- Meet character criteria as set forth by the Miss America Organization
- Be able to meet the time commitment responsibilities as set forth by the local or state program in which you compete.

- Candidates who are 18 by December 31, 2022, can choose to compete in either the Miss or Teen Program. However, she must be a high school graduate by July 31st, 2022, if she chooses to compete in the Miss Program.
- Note, this grandfather clause will not be in effect for the 2023 State & Local Competition season.
