Did you miss out on this amazing event? Snowflake Days is just beginning! Join me (with coffee in hand) tomorrow morning as we continue the Coon Rapids Snowflake Days Celebration with the Kids Medallion Hunt. This weekend’s events also include a Pickleball Tournament, Community Sock Hop, and Waffle Breakfast benefiting HOPE 4 Youth. All the details can be found at: http://coonrapidssnowflakedays.weebly.com/snowflake-days-events-at-a-glance.html. I love being able to be a part of the Snowflake Days Celebration, participate in these fun events, and meet my community members. So I hope to see you all this weekend! |
The 51st Coon Rapids Snowflake Days Celebration is officially underway as the kickoff event, the Guns & Hoses Hockey Game, took place last Saturday, January 24. I am by no means a sports enthusiast, although my entire family lives and breathes football, baseball, and hockey, but I had the best time at this event, AND I did not embarrass myself too greatly with my lack of sports knowledge. I was able to not only meet former North Star players such as Henry Boucha, Gordie Roberts, Brad Maxwell, Sean Toomey, and Joe Dziedzic but also take pictures and get autographs... I may have even danced with Henry Boucha, a U.S. Hockey Hall of Famer. I hinted at my love for coffee in an earlier blog (http://misscoonrapidspageant.weebly.com/blog/i-have-some-catching-up-to-do), but I just wanted to make a statement very clear... I love coffee and an event is typically not complete without a cup in hand. This hockey game was no exception, and I had an excuse to buy a delicious, warm French vanilla cappuccino because it was so cold in the arena.

I cannot believe that pageant season is almost over and that the Miss Minnesota class of 2015 is only three titleholders short of being complete! I have had the best time attending the local pageants and getting to know the other contestants. We really do not get to see each other beyond the local pageants and Miss Minnesota week. It is a known fact, though, within the Miss America system that the sisterhood and friendships created with other titleholders is unbreakable and lasts a lifetime. I cherish the time we do have together to further this legacy.
This past weekend, I attended the Miss Rochester & Olmsted County pageant. Not only was the pageant fun but so was the two hour car ride with my mom. Thanks for being the best chaperone and for the company during this long drive. There is no one else that I would want to take a two hour car ride with! Congratulations to the newest titleholders: Miss Rochester, Madeline Van Ert & New Miss Olmsted County, Rachel Latuff & the first ever Miss Rochester Outstanding Teen, Annie Sun.
I will not bore you with all the details of each event, but, instead would like to highlight some of my favorite moments. Before diving in though, I want to give a shout out to the newest titleholders who have joined the Miss Minnesota Class of 2015. Congratulations to Lauren Fellows, the newly crowned Miss Mankato, and Chelsea Swiggum, Miss Chain of Lakes, and Lauren Johnson, Miss Saint Paul, and lastly, Kaitlyn Borneke, Miss Minneapolis. It was so exciting to be able to celebrate you and with you in your crowning moments. Congrats again! By far, the most special event I have attended yet as Miss Coon Rapids has been the Gala for Hope hosted by HOPE 4 Youth. As an active and passionate advocate against youth homelessness, it was such an honor to be asked to be part of this event. HOPE 4 Youth is Anoka County’s first and only homeless youth drop-in center. The realities of youth homelessness are often unheard of and not talked about. Hope 4 Youth has done an amazing job jump starting the conversation about this key social issue in Anoka County. I am just blown away by the support and commitment community members have to serving this community. The Gala for Hope solidified the above statement to me. Over 400 community members were in attendance, selling out every seat, and the generosity of those in attendance was even more humbling. What made this event even more special, though, was that I got to share it with my mom, my committee, and a table full of the finest North Star Lions members. I am so thankful for a supportive committee who never allow me to make an appearance alone. This December, a few other special guests accompanied me to some wonderful events. At the Mickman Brothers Christmas Event, I spent the whole morning with my princess, Alivia. We had a blast taking silly pictures, singing Christmas carols, and helping Santa pass out stockings. I cannot wait to spend more time with Alivia; she is so full of contagious energy and joy which made this event so memorable. This next event took a lot of effort to participate in. This is only because I had to be at the Mall of America at 5 AM. Who goes to the mall that early?! The stores were not even open! On this morning, I was so thankful for coffee and motivation from my sister queen, Katy Wilson, Miss Grand Cities, to be there on time. Being a part of the KS95 Radiothon for Kids was a humbling experience. Over the course of just a couple of days, $717,643.64 was raised. Katy and I had the opportunity to take some of these calls and donations for Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare and Children’s Cancer Research Fund. Not only have I woken up at 3 AM for an event, but I have also stood outside in the frosty weather of December as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army... yet another appearance that required the perks of a hot cup of coffee and the company of my outstanding teen, Sage. This was our first appearance together, and we had a great time making music with our bells and greeting shoppers.
