The little girls and boys competing at the “junior royalty pageant” had all helped out at the carnival the previous weekend, giving Hanna and I the chance to get to know them! Thus, hugs, as per usual, ensued upon Hanna’s and my arrival and the kids were bouncing up and down around us the rest of the day. I’ll say it again, pageant days are full of nervous energy!
The pageant went off without a hitch, likely do the top-notch emceeing skills of myself and Tiffany Buszta. Fun fact, Tiffany is both a former junior royalty and a former local titleholder. I’ve known her since I was Hanna’s age and she has become another influential “big sister” of mine!
All jokes aside, judge’s critiques from the Miss Coon Rapids pageant provided a great opportunity to sit down with my Committee and discuss future plans for competing at Miss Minnesota in June! I’ve found that the best way to take critiques is to compare what they tell you with what you know about yourself and what you know you can work on. If someone tells you to dye your hair, but you absolutely love the way your hair looks, you do not to need to make that change. If someone tells you to try a new style of evening gown and you are comfortable changing up your wardrobe a little, you can certainly look into it. The critique is to give you guidance and direction! And that is how my meeting with my directors went. I left ever-grateful for their advice and willingness to help me find the best way to go about my year. Some big things are ahead for me as Miss Coon Rapids and I can’t wait for what’s next!
