The Greater Minnesota, or "Sweeps" competition is Minnesota's the last local to quality candidates to compete for Miss Minnesota 2019. Sweeps is typically a very well attended pageant and I meet just about everyone who will be competing at State, in addition to other local directors and volunteers. Since this competition was held the same weekend as orientation, EVERYONE was there! Walking in was a thrill, because we all knew the next Miss Minnesota and Miss Minnesota’s Outstanding Teen were in the room. Dedicated volunteers were in the room. The State Board and Titleholders were in the room. It was a packed.
Just my luck, not long after walking in I was made aware of a small rip in my dress that needed fixing before the entire seam ripped out! I ended up being quickly ushered to the basement, which doubled as a changing room for the candidates. What a happy circumstance to have to be in the changing room, as I had the privilege to meet each of the women who were competing! We all laughed at my dress, shared hugs, and I was able to wish them each good luck in person. Backstage at a local competition is always my favorite place to be on account of the infectious electric energy each candidate possesses. It’s a funny combination of nerves and excitement for the pageant and I love sharing that feeling with other women in the sisterhood.
Once my dress was mended, the evening went off without a hitch and ended in the welcoming of 4 new women to the Miss Minnesota Class of 2019. So tonight, our class was complete. Congratulations to our newest members of the class, Ally, Sophie, Maggie, and McCayla!
~Love, Kathryn
