My first appearance during Spring Break was at a Women's Conference, 'Women in the New Evangelization,' where I was able to sell my Invisible Crown earrings and candle votives, and speak to women and teens about the Miss America Organization. Not only did I make some great connections, but I was able to achieve my CMN fundraising goal with the sales I made at the conference.
My social impact initiative, The Invisible Crown, afforded me another opportunity to speak about Miss America at my local Rotary Club. I had a great time meeting the Rotary members, sharing my personal story, and explaining the benefits women receive from competing. My talk garnered plenty of questions and I was able to hand out literature about our state program. What a wonderful opportunity to be able to speak as a titleholder and share my love of this program.
After the Rotary Club speech, I packed up my cooler of food and headed over to Minnesota's Children's Hospital to appear on Star Studio again with The Dude. We filmed another live segment of "Snack Attack" where I shared simple, healthy snack recipes kids can learn to make at home. I actually surprised my co-host with a gift of a personalized apron with the name "Chef Dude" on the front! The Dude makes me laugh so much and I can't wait for our next show together in May! It also looks like we will be filming several shows of new segment called "Whatcha Got Cookin'" to be aired on the Star Studio Network this summer.
The following morning, I was at Wild Sound recording studio with jazz pianist extraordinaire, Rick Carlson. Rick recorded my talent competition song, In A Sentimental Mood, with his beautiful playing. I can't wait to perform my talent!
Wrapping up the week, I had a fun photo session with Emily Stock of Tiger Lily Photography. Emily was Miss Coon Rapids (my big sister queen) in 2013 when I was Miss Coon Rapids Outstanding Teen. Emily is still a close friend and mentor to me AND she is an amazing photographer. Emily did some awesome branding photos for me for my social media. Emily's friendship and continued mentorship is a true example of what the Miss America sisterhood is all about.
Stay tuned for more adventures,
~love, Kathryn
