Barbeques, sandy beaches, and the new pageant season. This past month, I have not only relaxed and enjoyed this incredible Minnesota weather but have celebrated with two of my Miss Minnesota girls as they gave up their local crowns and welcomed new titleholders into the sisterhood. On July 10, my mom and I made the trek to Detroit Lakes for the Miss Northwest pageant. Miss Northwest 2015, Bailey Sorvig, and I became great friends even before Miss Minnesota week. Bailey is a true example of what a titleholder represents: beauty, poise, passion, and a servant’s heart. I cannot wait to journey with her in the next chapter of her life. Good-bye to Miss Northwest and hello to Mrs. Richert. A huge congratulation goes out to Sarah Labine, the newly crowned Miss Northwest, and Alissa Roll, the newly crowned Miss Northwest’s Outstanding Teen. This past weekend, my mom and I, again, journeyed north to Frazee for Turkey Days. We love Turkey Days and haven’t missed a celebration since 2008; it has become a summer tradition and always includes a picture with the World’s Largest Turkey, eating turkey legs, attending the Miss Frazee pageant, the turkey luncheon, and parade. That’s a lot of turkey talk! A very special shout out goes to Becca Sorlien-Riewer, Miss Frazee 2015. Becca is currently at boot camp with the US Air National Guard and was until to attend the Miss Frazee pageant to pass her crown on. Becca, you are inspirational to us all. We are the home of the free because of the brave, thank you for your service. Congratulations to the new Miss Frazee, Mollee Byer and Miss Frazee's Outstanding Teen, Cassidy Nelson. My last good-bye... or I should say, “good luck,” is for Rachel Weyandt, Miss Minnesota’s Outstanding Teen. Rachel is currently in Orlando competing for the title of Miss America’s Outstanding Teen. As a former Miss Minnesota’s Outstanding Teen, I describe my experience at the national competition as the best week of my high school career. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity filled with many great events and memories that will last for years after. This week is also stressful and rigorous with very early mornings, late nights, and many hours of rehearsal each day. Rachel has represented Minnesota flawlessly, and as the week comes to a close, please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. BEST OF LUCK, RACHEL! Here’s to 52 more days of hellos and good-byes as I finish out my year as Miss Coon Rapids!
