Hope 4 Youth is an organization that was created to aid the youth of Anoka-Hennepin counties under the age of 24. There are 721 youth that were identified as homeless during the 2012-2013 school year; this number grew from 581 the previous year! Around 155 of these youth are living on their own. I was introduced to this issue during my first appearance as Miss Coon Rapids. Knowing that there are people in my age group that are in these situations made me eager to get involved with the wonderful work that Hope 4 Youth is doing. Hope 4 Youth is a drop in center that allows individuals to get off the street and have a hot meal, clean up, do homework or connect with resources to move out of their current situation. The organization also provides hygiene packs and supplies to aid in aspects of everyday life. Their current goal is to expand to provide more housing options to decrease the growing numbers of homeless youth in Anoka Hennepin. Bree and I were able to come and hear amazing stories from people who were directly impacted from the generosity of Hope 4 Youth, learn even more about the history and future plans of the organization and talk with community members during the spaghetti feed. Several wonderful fundraisers took place at the Coon Rapids VFW to benefit Hope 4 Youth and Bree and I were happy to contribute to their efforts!
